Want to earn three to six credits while working for an online newsmagazine? Join Maryland Newsline in the fall. Newsline is produced by undergraduate and graduate journalism students who work under the direction of faculty instructor Chris Harvey.
Undergraduates have a choice of registering for three or six credits: They may register for JOUR 353 for multimedia reporting and writing on Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students shoot video and photos and collect audio to report and write stories integrating photos, video, audio and text. Equipment and software is available in the news bureau. (The course is 3 credits; prerequisites: JOUR 320 or JOUR 360; JOUR 352, and permission of department.) Students may also register for JOUR 355, to do Web editing, special projects, interactives and production on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (The course is 3 credits; prerequisites: JOUR 202 or JOUR262; and JOUR320 or JOUR 360; and JOUR 352 and permission of department.)
Graduate students register for six credits for the online news bureau, JOUR 655. They work as Web producers, editors and multimedia reporters and writers four days a week - Tuesdays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prerequisites: JOUR 652, 620 (and 502) or equivalents and permission of department.
All work is published on Maryland Newsline.
